Finally, after many years of trying, we managed to get up to the ACW reenactment camp at Port Gamble.

Frankly, I was more than a bit disappointed. Their camps were open to the public, but they weren't actually ready for the public. There wasn't any clear paths or logical arrangement, few displays, ahistorical elements plainly on view among the historical, and most of them seemed content to pretend the modern visitor simply didn't exist. It felt like being able to enter the camps was a cheap bonus so that you didn't feel so bad about spending $10 to watch a battle that was poorly narrated and that unless you were tall or in the front row you couldn't really see or follow anyhow.

Still, I managed to get a couple of interesting photographs...

I found this kind of amusing...  A reenactor photographing the reenactors.

One of the few shots of the battlefield without a bunch of heads in the way...

A shot of the 'dead' as the battle winds down...  I tried for a Matthew Brady feel, and I think I got pretty close.  (Check it out at full size to get the full effect..)
