Who volunteers to be a tester? <evil grin>

I know how it goes [livejournal.com profile] hrollaug. I set off to try a few, in theory simple, soapmaking experiments this weekend - and pretty much all of them failed. I'd hoped to post pictures of pretty soaps, but... back to the drawing board and web fora to figure out what I did wrong. (Hoping the answer isn't "well that isn't possible in the first place"...)

Anyone interested in some ugly Vanilla/Rasberry soap?

Rasberry soap - but I didn't quite get the color right. These are destined to be rebatched into a swirled soap, and I'll bring the red out more then. (This is a perfect lavender color though, and I do have some lavender on hand...)

Need some more practice with the light tent too...

Lesson learned in soapmaking: Start low and slow with the scent - it's easy to add scent, difficult and potentially expensive to add more base to dilute.

In the good, or at least better, news category the decision to spend the money and tile the craft room rather than leave the carpet in there was proven to be a sound one: In the first day of working up there, a great big ol' glob o' glue hit the floor. A minor annoyance quickly cleaned up with a wet sponge rather a nasty and permanent mess.

Two soap making projects today:

  1. Poured a single bar of each of two melt & pour bases to compare various qualities.

  2. Poured 3/4 Lb of soap to test a fragrance
