It's officially Getting Warmer (the indeterminate season we have up here in place of Spring) and the calender is starting to fill... So, these should be coming more often. (Assuming I remember to write them...)

Saturday was a bit of an odd day... Matt [livejournal.com profile] hl_mateusz has been in the hospital for bypass surgery, and I was tapped to drive him home. (He couldn't fold up to get in the back seat of their car, and isn't supposed to ride in a seat with an airbag.) So pretty much all day was spent waiting by the phone... and it wasn't until 4ish that the hospital got their act together. When we tried to get him in the van, it was embarrassing to discover that I *couldn't* move the middle seat back like I thought I could so he ended up being more cramped than we had hoped. (I think I was confusing this van with one of the one's I'd owned previously... which brings up the question of what exactly *are* those fittings in the floor for?) Driving was a trial, as I was trying to be as gentle as possible but the roads are bumpy in places and I couldn't be a hazard to other traffic either by starting or stopping too slowly. We finally got him home and some re-arrangement of their living room done (he's sleeping there as he can't do the stairs to the master bedroom). We were invited to stay for dinner, but bailed pretty quickly after dinner because it was getting late-ish and he was very plainly getting wore out.

Sunday, we went over to Seattle Center for the Seattle Cherry Blossom & Japanese Cultural Festival and had a blast. There were a lot of interesting displays and almost all of the artisans were more than willing to chat about whatever it was they were demonstrating/displaying. I was kind of disappointed with the carpentry display though, the gentleman had something of a canned routine and wasn't very responsive or interested when I tried to go a bit beyond that... had there been a crowd, I would have understood, but it was just B and I at the time.

There was a display of Japanese photography from the Tōhoku region (where the earthquake and tsunami hit two years ago) that was simply stunning. It wasn't pictures of the aftermath, but historic, documentary, and fine art photographs from the last half century. I used the show program to make some notes for future research into the photographers.

I took a bunch of pictures (of course) and some should be spectacular... One set in particular I have high hopes for, there was a Taiko drumming performance in Center House (which they've gone back to calling the Armory for some unknown reason), and while the light wasn't bright enough for stop-motion, it was bright enough for longer exposures.

Not a very inspiring title, but not every weekend has an overarching theme or lends itself to a catch phrase...
  • Headed out into the fog Saturday morning, and hit a variety of spots trying to find a picture... May have gotten one or two, but I'm still going through them.

  • Laurie came over Sat morning to fit some sewing she's doing for us, including some new trews for me. (A labor swap for the mold-and-deckle I mentioned a while back.) Her husband caught up with us on his way home from a [scuba] dive down in Tacoma, and we hit the Red Apple Diner for a very nice lunch.

  • On Sunday I got my corned beef in the pickle, along with some I'm making for various friends. (Almost fifteen pounds o' beef!) I also laid down some experimental chili spice pickled beef that Aaron wanted. Since most chili flavor is fat soluble, especially the capsaicin that carries the heat, I'm not entirely certain how this will come out... still, you never know unless you try!

  • In between all of this, we watched quite a bit of the World Baseball Classic games. The USA-Italy and USA-Canada games were especially good, and we pulled through both of them despite the team's inability to consistently generate any kind of an offense. Japan-Netherlands was painful to watch... Japan was expected to be a scrappy Cinderella against a more powerhouse Netherlands, but Japan ripped it open on the second pitch and never looked back. (There was a shot of the Netherlands GM and bench coach in the 5th with both looking shell shocked... that almost never happens, they're usually stone faced no matter what's happening on-field.) Japan faces them again tomorrow, which should be an interesting game.

Went to Kingdom A&S on Saturday, and by the end of the day my brain hurt badly... soooo much good information. Plus plenty of time hanging out and chatting with friends.

Two funny anecdotes...
  • We stopped by Starbucks on the way out of town, and the lady at the drive up window asked if we were "going to Seattle". The looks of confusion on our faces prompted her to add "to that comic thing". "No", we explained, "we're off to a medieval event in Tacoma". I guess to the mundanes, one form of geek looks much like another.
  • While watching a presentation, the presenter apologized for going off in too much details and being "too nerdy". One of the judges leaned in and said "don't apologize, you can't swing a dead cat in here without hitting ten nerds".
Less fun was court... Sometimes I couldn't see what was going on for all the cell phones people were holding up to take pictures... and let's not get started on how all the bigger camera's flashes looked like paparazzi at a Hollywood opening. Self control people, self control. This is theoretically a medieval event, and all of your electronics are very jarring during a solemn ceremony.

We'd planned to go to dinner with a friend, but since court ran long we were all *starved* when all was said and done. (And we were in Tacoma, which none of us know well.) We ended up going to a Panda Express (fast food pseudo Asian) - the food sucked, but it was calories and filling and the companionship was excellent.

In other news, we got our passes and hotel reservations for Sakura-Con, so that's the next Big Event on the horizon.

Busy weekend, busy Monday, so I forgot to post my weekend update. After the relative quiet of October, November starts with a bang and we're busy practically every weekend from now until after the New Year...

Saturday
  • Not one, but *two* parties/gatherings. First off, a geocaching gathering down in Port Orchard to welcome Donna, Todd, and the quads back from Charleston. Then a BBQ/gaming day up in Silverdale to celebrate Rich's graduation from college (with a degree in game design, hence the gaming sessions).
Sunday
  • A site walk through for Yule, followed by a working lunch to discuss some details. (Pizza! Yum!) Afterwards, Laurie came by the house to work on a new dress for Brenda for Yule.

This weekend was mostly about chores and errands and setting up my new computer... But I did have an unusual shooting opportunity, my friend Mark (of Virtuous Photography) is not only the father of two girls in the dance troupe, but their "(un)official" photographer as well. (His daughter is the smaller girl all in white.) He invited me along to shoot their performance as part of the "Haunted Fairgrounds" Halloween festivities For most of the evening I was able to set up with my tripod straddling the corner of the stage, right in the thick of the action.

The shoot was challenging because of the low light, but fun and interesting too, because I've never done anything quite like this before. Because the performance was repeated, I could start to anticipate events and plan my shots as well as experiment with different settings.

There's more coming from this shoot, but it's Monday and that means I need to get on my housework and chores...

Busy, busy, busy...

The week past:

  • Wensday:  All day long at the county fair, alternating wandering about with working the desk in the photo competition area.  So far, of the photo's I took, there's a dismaying lack of keepers.

  • Thursday: Cleaning house in the AM, and our friends Chas and Andy arrived from out-of-town.  Up late chatting and catching up.

  • Friday: Hanging out and running around with Chas and Andy.  Up late again chatting and catching up and watching Really Bad movies on TV.

  • Saturday: Saw Chas and Andy off in the AM, then spent the afternoon/early evening at the Fair - this time just wandering about with my sweetie ([livejournal.com profile] brenda333, not that she ever posts anything).

  • Sunday: Chillin' around the house after four busy days.

The week to come:

  • Mon-Wens: Assorted preps for September Crown.

  • Thurs-Mon: September Crown itself.

Busy, busy, busy...

Off to email menu planning to our campmate before heading to bed...

derekl_1963: (Default)

Sorry I haven't posted in a bit... as I said a couple of weeks back, August is crazy busy.

Last week was all about getting my prints ready for the County Fair, and I'll have a post on that in a day or two.

Saturday was actually a free day, so Brenda and I ran off to Seattle and hit Pike Place. Haven't done that in way, way, too long. I'd forgotten how much fun it is to wander and shop the Market. Spent Saturday night napping off-and-on while trying (with little sucess) to catch the meteor shower. Sunday, tired as heck, spent pretty much all afternoon out at the Fairgrounds helping to accept entries into the photography competition.

This evening was the last full-scale meeting of the Sept Crown staff. Even though Crown is three weeks away, everything increasingly runs on momentum from here and depends more direct interaction between the staff as pretty much everyone understands the broad strokes. As I left, the core Staff was meeting - and I'm kinda glad I'm not involved in that. They've got some real headscratchers to deal with getting everything to fit on site. I've got my own corner (parking) to deal with, and only one person (the RV coordinator) whose space I'll bump up against, so a lot fewer headaches between now and the event. My problems really all start the Thursday before when layout/setup starts and kick into high gear Friday AM when people start arriving.

Tomorrow, another long day. Out to the fairgrounds to help wrangle for judging the photo competition, back to the house for some workmen to come by, back to the fairgrounds, and the rounding out the evening with fighter practice. (And a meeting with the steward for Searjeantry trials.)

I keep meaning to post these... and I've already missed two much more interesting weekends...

Saturday

Up and off to the Bremerton Elks Car Show. Brenda didn't go, which was probably a good thing because she'd have been bored to tears pretty quickly. It's not that she doesn't appreciate cars, but I went through them at what ended up being a pretty slow pace. Lots of photography (and hoping a few come out), and lots of chatter/reminiscing with folks about muscle cars back in the 70's and early 80's.

Being gas guzzlers post the Oil Crisis, and with the original owners were morphing into Responsible Adults, they were common among teenagers when I was in high school because they could be had pretty cheaply. Tools and parts were common and easy to come by, so they could maintained in the front yard. And oh boy, did we spend a lot of time on that - many had been driven into the ground. (Back then, a car with 50k miles on it was generally pretty much clapped out.)

Back home for a few chores and a nap.. and then off to the Bremerton Brewfest.

We had a blast at the Brewfest... the organizers really took the lessons from last year (which was the first year) to heart. They cordoned off more of the streets without increasing the number of breweries much, which made things much more comfortable as there was more room to hang out and less crowding around the booths. The brewers also brought a wider variety of beers, last year was dominated by light summer ales which became pretty boring after a bit.

Of course, being Bremerton, which is a pretty small town, we ran into bucket loads of friends and acquaintances. At one point we spent about half an hour standing in one spot and chatting with friends as they happened by.

Dinner afterwards at the Curry Lounge, which replaced the New Delhi - new owners, same fantastic Indian food, much better service.

Sunday

Not so busy a day... :) Mostly hanging about the house doing chores and napping. We went up to Silver City for dinner because Brenda had a birthday coupon which was only good Sun-Thurs, and which expired in a week.

Now it's Monday and a semi-busy week... two meetings, and time to start sweating getting ready to cook for Summer Madness.

derekl_1963: (Default)

Now that I'm remembering to write these, weekends are mostly quiet for a bit... though the summer calendar is actually starting to fill up. Not too many summer weekends in the Pacific Northwest, so we make the most of them.

Ended up hanging about the house and getting caught up on housework for the most part. Saturday, ran over to Soren's to borrow a loom so I can take pictures of it to build one for Brenda. Sunday, Lady Jane came over and we worked out the basic menu and plans for Yule Feast.

Today, shopping and starting preps for the 4th.

Saturday

Spent pretty much the whole day working on the RV. Took it out and dumped the tanks after flushing the fresh water system, replaced the house battery, topped off all the fluids, etc... Since the day was sunny and reasonably warm, we washed it too. (It didn't actually look all that dirty, but when you saw a washed section next to an unwashed... *wow*.)

Sunday

Long day caching down in Shelton and back to Belfair. (Found 10 of 11 we tried!) Lunch was Jack-in-the-Box because the A&W has closed - big time sad face - that leaves only the one in Port Orchard locally. I also scored the last set of scouting photos I'm taking for they gentleman who is making a tour of the country photographing the few surviving drive-in theaters. (Fewer than 400 survive nationwide.)

Monday

Pretty much a quiet day - worn out from the last two and Brenda had to work. Grilled up some burgers for dinner because it's Memorial Day weekend, and you have to grill *something*! Even though we're not actually having summer weather yet, and are barely having spring.

derekl_1963: (Default)

Another beautiful weekend, maybe (crosses fingers) we've finally turned the corner for the year.

Saturday - Up at 5.30AM (shudder) to head up to Pt Townsend with the Kitsap Photography Guild for a photowalk at the Port Townsend Shipyard. It was pretty cool to be able to walk among the boats being worked on.

I'm still processing the pictures, but here's the one I've done so far:

Pygmies against a giant
Pygmies against a giant.

Afterwards, lunch in Port Orchard (BBQ at Dos Okies, yum!) and few errands then back home for a nap and grilled burgers for dinner.

Sunday - Up to our friends Bruce and Laurie's. While Brenda and Laurie worked on a scribal project, Bruce, their daughter Becca, and I went up to Bloedel Reserve. Becca and I taking pictures of the plant life and scenery, while Bruce found a succession of benches to flake out on. (He'd been on a dive the day before and was still pretty tired.) Afterwards, back to their place for dinner.

derekl_1963: (Default)

Ok, I've overused the word "awesome" the last couple of day, but what the hell... it's my LJ after all.

Friday - Off in the evening with a raftload of friends to see The Avengers, which was *awesome* as I've said elsewhere. Afterwards, over to the Cloverleaf for beer, wings, pizza, and chatter and hanging out.

Saturday - Housework during the day, then Soren and Inga came over for Cinco de Mayo dinner. Grilled chicken burritos, Mexican Rice, home made frijoles refritos (awesome, much better than the glop from cans), and margaritas. Flan for dessert.

Sunday - Chuck came over and we hung out and then grilled steaks for dinner. I even got a photo session in, running out to the airport to catch the sun setting behind the Olympics.

Leftovers (burritos) for lunch today, and steak-and-eggs (eggs from a friends chickens) for dinner today.

All in all, an excellent weekend!

Saturday got to spend all day out in the shop, knocking out all but the final steps of the current project. Ralph is coming over today to help with those steps, they're tricky and something I've never done before.) In the evening we went over to a party at Brenda's bosses' house, and had a blast. They used to do a lot of staff parties, but those have tapered off. I hope they go back to do doing them.

When we got home, watched a little TV while Brenda cleaned the piggies cage... Oh Brother Where Art Thou, from the scene in the radio station where we first 'meet' the Soggy Bottom Boys to the scene with the Sirens;

I wasn't feeling to good Sunday morning, all day at the workbench on Sat (and that bench is too low) plus standing around for hours at the party did a number of my back. So, it was mostly light housework and hanging about.

In the afternoon we met a bunch of folks at the theater to see Hunger Games.

It turned out we were the second shift - as our group was waiting to go in, another whole bunch of our friends was just coming out. :)

Over all, it was pretty a good. A nicely done adaptation, with decent acting and characterization... The art director however should be taken out back and shot. In the first half hour/forty five minutes (up to the start of the Games) he managed to cram in/recycle so many SF visual tropes that it really took away from the movie itself. Afterwards, we all went over to Azteca for dinner and chatter about the movie.

Back home, once again, in time to clean the piggies cage while watching TV and then to bed... Another movie this time - Rear Window, which I've never seen. (And I love Jimmy Stewart!) So, we recorded it on the Tivo to watch later,

Weekend spent mostly in the workshop...

Saturday

The shop was something of a wreck...

It's amazing how much clutter and mess from minor chores and projects can accumulate despite not spending much time in the shop. So Saturday was spent clearing and cleaning. Stuff that shouldn't have been in the shop moved out and put where it should be, stuff that should be in the shop put away in it's proper place.

Brenda spent the day housecleaning (I.E. cleaning up after the piggies and doing the stuff I can't do), and neither of us felt like cooking. So dinner was Applebee's 2 for $20... (Appetizer and two entree's.) I picked the wrong sauce for the wings, and one end of my steak was somewhat gristly (I don't expect much at those prices...) But Brenda loves the Asian Salad there, and the Jack Daniels I had with my steak tasted mighty fine.

Sunday

Decks clear and ready for action - so it was back out into the shop. Did some tests to get ready for upcoming projects, and then hit a snag... It's not yet warm enough to have the door open, so I can't really do any of the painting and finishing. Instead, a lower priority project (the menu board stand for the Culinary Guild) got bumped up and I got all but one cut made before it was time to head in and cook dinner.

Dinner was a pseudo Chicken Parmesan (Skinless chicken thighs baked in egg noodles and a quick red sauce). Brenda picked up some Parmesan on her way back from Scribal, which meant it got home too late to be baked in. Instead we sprinkled it liberally over the chicken and noodles and the sauteed cauliflower that accompanied it at table. (Yum!)

Daylight Savings Time sucks rocks - but at least it moves sunrise back to a more reasonable hour. Now if we'll just get some decent weather!

derekl_1963: (Default)

Pretty much a boring weekend.

Saturday was spent napping and running errands down in Tacoma. Errands we shouldn't have had to run if the company in question didn't have their head up their hind... OTOH, it gave us an excuse to hit up Krispy Kreme. Mmmm... I loves me some Krispy Kreme, they bring back so many memories. (I grew up in the town they originated in, and they're a big part of the culture there.)

Sunday, got up and headed downtown to the ferry terminal pre-dawn because it looked like there would be great light. Only, there wasn't, so after freezing my ass off I came home empty handed. Napped, and then spent the afternoon tending a pork curry... which didn't come out quite right either. Tasty enough, but nowhere near the heat I expected, so back to the drawing board.

I did get some great ideas for some future shots - when it's not so dammed cold at dawn. (As I said in a comment elsewhere "when it's not so o'dammed cold when it's o'dark thirty".) And when dawn doesn't coincide so neatly with peak commuting hours.

derekl_1963: (Default)

Saturday, the photoclub held a workshop down in Belfair. I had an interesting time working with some of the setups they provided and with a couple of models the club hired for the day. The most fun however, was photographing the other photographers as they concentrated on their work. The second most fun was when one of the member's daughters showed up with here fourteen month old daughter - who promptly got 'volunteered' to be a model. :) Despite having something like ten photographers concentrating on her, she was quite even tempered about the whole deal even if she didn't particularly want to laugh or wave or otherwise be photogenic.

Sunday, we went up to Laurie's (Brenna for you SCA folk) and made paper in her shop. Quite interesting, and somewhat disheartening to learn just how many different ways we screwed it up when Brenda and I tried making paper years and years ago. Afterwards, lunch at a little pub in Winslow (or at least what used to be Winslow). Beer, good, food, meh, companionship, excellent... and then back to her place to hang out for a bit.

derekl_1963: (Default)

I've been meaning to post more of these, so I might as well start even if the weekend was mostly boring. :)

Saturday, Brenda went over a friends to do scribal stuff. So I spent the day mostly running errands and doing some stuff around the house. Also got a photography project started, started planning another, and spent a couple of hours diving in my archives. The project I started is taking a photograph of the same area of the sky using the same camera settings at the same time (noon) each day. Mostly clouds so far...

Sunday, another scribal day for Brenda, a class down at Dame Tammlyn's that she came back quite enthused from.

I started poking around in my shop... It's amazing how cluttered it has got, despite not spending much time out there last year. But, with June Fair projects in the offing I need to get it cleaned and organized so I can get a head start if the weather permits. (The shop is insulated now, but most of the projects are finishing and refinishing and I need to be able to open the windows for those.) I didn't get as much done because on my first break, I came back in the house and MIB II was on and I got caught up in it. It seems my subconscious decided that even a crappy movie was a better idea than cleaning the shop.

derekl_1963: (Default)

Always mean to post these weekend updates, almost never remember to.

Saturday...

Saturday, at least during the day, was a pretty ordinary day.  Housework, housework, housework...  But, in the evening:

LLLiiiiiIIIPPS!!

Off we went to see the Rocky Horror Show at CSTOCK.

As we headed out of the house, I realized that by some vast oversight we didn't actually own a copy of the soundtrack on CD, only on tape. So, it was off to f.y.e. (formerly Wherehouse) to pick it up. (They seem make their living mostly selling DVD's and various merchandise nowadays. How much longer before they follow the video rental chains into oblivion?) After dinner, we ended up getting to the theater early (not on purpose, I swear), so it was just like old times - standing out in the parking lot with the soundtrack blaring. (Of course way back when, we were listening to it on 8-track car stereos and boom boxes.)

The play turned out pretty dang good. Parts of the cast were a bit weak, but the gentleman playing Frank-N-Furter absolutely stole the show (which is actually As It Should Be), and Brad was extremely well played. There was a decent level of audience participation (and I got in a few myself), but nobody did the Time Warp. Chatting with some other folks during intermission, it turned out that we'd all been waiting for someone else to bell the cat and stand up and start the dance...

We wanted to go out for something after the play... but there really isn't much of a place left that's decent and open that late unless you want to hit Silver City for a drink. Starbucks and a crappy pastry is no replacement for a coffee and big slab o' pie over at Elsie's. I miss Elsie's.

Sunday...

Sunday was up early and off to Seattle to do some shopping. The 'up early' part was very annoying... I knew Brenda had set her alarm forty five minutes before mine, so when hers went off and woke me I snuggled back under the covers expecting a nice little nap, when mine went off all the sudden. She'd been hitting snooze for forty five minutes...

The ferry ride over was excellent, and I took many shots... hopefully a few will turn out.

The first stop was Dick Blick (where I was bored to tears), then over to Elliot Bay Books which is just around the corner where I snagged a manga on Japanese cuisine. Then it was off to Glazer's where Brenda took her turn being bored to tears and I was pissed because I'd gotten the dates of their tripod trade in/sale back asswards. (It was Fri/Sat where I had actually written down Sat/Sun.) Last stop was Daiso and Uwajimaya down in the International District for lunch and stocking up on a few things we can't get over here. (Kitsap County is a nice place to live, and has all the shopping and services you need for day-to-day... but in some ways it really is a small place out in the sticks.)

A mini-debate then ensued over how to get back home. I favored the ferry, but Brenda was more in favor of the (less expensive) route of driving around. I pointed out that the ferry was cheap for the photographic opportunities, and since she was going to nap the whole way - what did it really matter? Which is pretty much how it turned out - we were getting excellent light, so I spend the whole trip on deck taking photographs and she stayed in the van and napped.

By the time we got home, we were pretty wrung out from a busy weekend, so it was delivery pizza for dinner and then early to bed.

derekl_1963: (Default)

Fourth of July weekend... summed up;

  • Sat: Up early and off to the Peninsula for a day of exploration and geocaching in and around Port Townsend.

Hit up Edensaw (a lumber dealer/woodworking store) but they we closed for the weekend. Right next door there was a place dealing in salvage lumber, and while the gate was open nobody seemed to be about so I called the number on their sign on a whim - and one of the workers was there and gave us a tour of the yard. (Note to self: Call them back every now and again to see what they have in stock.) Hit up Akami (art store) and gave Brenda an early birthday present (cash) which she promptly spent a good chunk of on paints and brushes.

In amongst all this, we found five of the seven caches we attempted, which is a pretty good run. One took us to the town's historical cemetery, all the clues were the birth and death dates of various historical personages buried there, and the cache owner took the time to write a nice brief bio of each of them. My favorite of the day lead to an overlook up on the hill with a *wonderful* view of the water - and was two blocks from the Farmer's Market, which we wandered for a bit.

Lunch was at Dos Okies - a BBQ place near the marina (highly recommended!), their sides need work but their Q is excellent. The real score however was dinner... We wanted pizza, and the first search result had five stars and when I looked further had a steady run of 4.5/5 star reviews. (I love smart phones!) So off we went to Lanza's for one of the better Italian dinners we've ever had.

I got some excellent photographs from the overlook, and also of some deer we spotted having a bit of lunch in someone's garden. (At least I hope they come out, it's always a crapshoot.)

  • Sun: Sunday was medium quiet... Chuck came over and we hung out and then grilled up dinner. Steak, potatoes, and corn - your basic grilled dinner. The steak was *excellent* if a hair overdone, but we're still mastering the Egg.

  • Mon: Brenda had to work a half day, so I was stuck at home. Feeling a bit down, I headed out to Waterfront Park and wandered around. I got one decent photograph in about two hours. When she got home, we headed up to Klayton & Heather's BBQ... We've been invited for years, but it always conflicts. Had a blast and also indulged in photo geekery, beer geekery, and Scotch (whiskey) geekery along with excellent food and massive quantities of fireworks. Sadly, we had to bail early because Brenda had to work early today and because I'd promised Eric that I'd give him and their dogs a lift home before the main event fireworks.

After dropping off Brenda, I headed back out to a spot I'd scouted out earlier that looks across the Narrows and down at Lion's Field and shot the fireworks people were shooting off there. If I get even *one* that is half as good as they looked on the camera's screen I'll be ecstatic.

All and all an excellent weekend. I missed going to the ball game like we usually do, but for one reason or another Brenda and I were the only ones that could go and we decided it wouldn't be the same with just us and bagged it as well.

Off to start laundry, and then to import and process the photographs. I'm months behind on posting and have resolved to post current work in a timely fashion and to hack away at the backlog.

Now that LJ is back...

  • My car is back on the road - it turned out to only require the lower (Serious Frown Inducing) estimate rather than the larger (Fred Sanford Imitation Inducing) one. But over the weekend it exhibited some electrical problems that could be cause for concern if they repeat...

  • The Mexican Style Pork mentioned on Wednesday last became enchilada's on Sunday, and they were *wonderful*.

Saturday
Met up with Eric while he was out running their dogs and had a fun time photographing them and hanging out and catching up. We all ended up going out to lunch afterwards, and while the ladies went shopping Eric and I wandered Silverdale just killing time.

All last week this song was running through my head:

Huh. I never realized that was Kate Pierson (of the B-52's) singing with him.
