Naahm's (Norm Abram's) tool are like the magic ovens you see on TV cooking shows... in goes the wood, out come a piece perfectly machined or cut. The fussy and boring bits (like re-aligning the infeed and outfeed tables on the planer), these do not happen in the Naahmverse.

And how in h-e-doublehockeysticks does something that took so much effort to break loose to re-adjust drift so far out in the *first* place?

<sigh>

Spend all day out in the shop setting up a tool and getting all the layout done... only to realize you never actually bought the appropriate bit.

All in all, an excellent weekend!

Saturday got to spend all day out in the shop, knocking out all but the final steps of the current project. Ralph is coming over today to help with those steps, they're tricky and something I've never done before.) In the evening we went over to a party at Brenda's bosses' house, and had a blast. They used to do a lot of staff parties, but those have tapered off. I hope they go back to do doing them.

When we got home, watched a little TV while Brenda cleaned the piggies cage... Oh Brother Where Art Thou, from the scene in the radio station where we first 'meet' the Soggy Bottom Boys to the scene with the Sirens;

I wasn't feeling to good Sunday morning, all day at the workbench on Sat (and that bench is too low) plus standing around for hours at the party did a number of my back. So, it was mostly light housework and hanging about.

In the afternoon we met a bunch of folks at the theater to see Hunger Games.

It turned out we were the second shift - as our group was waiting to go in, another whole bunch of our friends was just coming out. :)

Over all, it was pretty a good. A nicely done adaptation, with decent acting and characterization... The art director however should be taken out back and shot. In the first half hour/forty five minutes (up to the start of the Games) he managed to cram in/recycle so many SF visual tropes that it really took away from the movie itself. Afterwards, we all went over to Azteca for dinner and chatter about the movie.

Back home, once again, in time to clean the piggies cage while watching TV and then to bed... Another movie this time - Rear Window, which I've never seen. (And I love Jimmy Stewart!) So, we recorded it on the Tivo to watch later,

Two awesome days in a row...

Wednesday was nice enough to go out shooting, and I have another shot or two to post from that.

Today, workshop time! Spent some time working on the most complex part for my current project. (Not all that complex in real terms though.) Took two hours to complete the first one, and half an hour to complete it's identical twin.

Also discovered just how flimsy my workbench is... and it will have to be replaced sooner rather than later. I figure I'll build a prototype of the woodworking bench I want to build and use it to replace the general workbench.

Off to bed, tired and pleased.

Weekend spent mostly in the workshop...

Saturday

The shop was something of a wreck...

It's amazing how much clutter and mess from minor chores and projects can accumulate despite not spending much time in the shop. So Saturday was spent clearing and cleaning. Stuff that shouldn't have been in the shop moved out and put where it should be, stuff that should be in the shop put away in it's proper place.

Brenda spent the day housecleaning (I.E. cleaning up after the piggies and doing the stuff I can't do), and neither of us felt like cooking. So dinner was Applebee's 2 for $20... (Appetizer and two entree's.) I picked the wrong sauce for the wings, and one end of my steak was somewhat gristly (I don't expect much at those prices...) But Brenda loves the Asian Salad there, and the Jack Daniels I had with my steak tasted mighty fine.

Sunday

Decks clear and ready for action - so it was back out into the shop. Did some tests to get ready for upcoming projects, and then hit a snag... It's not yet warm enough to have the door open, so I can't really do any of the painting and finishing. Instead, a lower priority project (the menu board stand for the Culinary Guild) got bumped up and I got all but one cut made before it was time to head in and cook dinner.

Dinner was a pseudo Chicken Parmesan (Skinless chicken thighs baked in egg noodles and a quick red sauce). Brenda picked up some Parmesan on her way back from Scribal, which meant it got home too late to be baked in. Instead we sprinkled it liberally over the chicken and noodles and the sauteed cauliflower that accompanied it at table. (Yum!)

Daylight Savings Time sucks rocks - but at least it moves sunrise back to a more reasonable hour. Now if we'll just get some decent weather!

Mostly a list for my reference, mostly in priority order...

Current projects:

Refinish scullery table.
Refinish low work table.
The scullery table especially has been subject to years of abuse, and is way overdue.
Overhaul/rework water tank stand.
Build temporary menu/chalkboard stand, probably by overhauling the existing one.
Paint/preserve Gold Key hanging racks.
At a minimum the bottom 6" or so and all end grain needs to be sealed.
Refinish trestle table trestles and legs.

Future projects/wishlist:

New water tank stand.
The existing one was mostly hacked together over one weekend and has some flaws.
Menu/chalkboard V3.0 plus a suitable stand.
Lots of lessons learned to date - and the current version has some significant flaws.

I've been meaning to post more of these, so I might as well start even if the weekend was mostly boring. :)

Saturday, Brenda went over a friends to do scribal stuff. So I spent the day mostly running errands and doing some stuff around the house. Also got a photography project started, started planning another, and spent a couple of hours diving in my archives. The project I started is taking a photograph of the same area of the sky using the same camera settings at the same time (noon) each day. Mostly clouds so far...

Sunday, another scribal day for Brenda, a class down at Dame Tammlyn's that she came back quite enthused from.

I started poking around in my shop... It's amazing how cluttered it has got, despite not spending much time out there last year. But, with June Fair projects in the offing I need to get it cleaned and organized so I can get a head start if the weather permits. (The shop is insulated now, but most of the projects are finishing and refinishing and I need to be able to open the windows for those.) I didn't get as much done because on my first break, I came back in the house and MIB II was on and I got caught up in it. It seems my subconscious decided that even a crappy movie was a better idea than cleaning the shop.

*Whew*, it's Tuesday and I'm still one tired puppy... But we got 'er done. About 90% of the major construction (hanging the ceiling and walls) is done out in the workshop and I can move ahead on taping/mudding and painting.

Huge thanks go out to Joel ([livejournal.com profile] abrahe ), Ralph ([livejournal.com profile] hrollaug ), Eric ([livejournal.com profile] fugazi2112 ), and Matt ([livejournal.com profile] hl_mateusz ) for coming out and helping over the weekend with this massive project.
