Went last night to

brighidross 's birthday gathering, both to wish her a happy birthday and to eat somewhere that didn't smell of turkey. :) :)

As we parted, she admonished me to "not kill myself, it's just one meal". Wise words those... I think I come off a bit more obsessed here than I really am, I am taking time to smell the roses etc... etc... But to some extent I do live for this week. Some folks obsess about the Superbowl, some about their 12th Night garb, others about other things, me - I live for this week of dancing on the culinary high wire without a net. I love to challenge myself with a new accomplishment or refinement each year. Even though I whine and complain here, I'm actually having a blast! This is the culmination of a year of planning and thinking about obscure details. (Most of the year, it's just background noise, minor thinking when it occurs to me - but come November it kicks into high gear.)

Well, I'm almost done with my second cup of coffee, the turkey is in it's brine, so it's off to the store and then back to cooking. More later.
