Date: 2008-07-31 05:17 pm (UTC)I am a firm believer that you don't change corporate practices by stopping use of a type of product rather you change them by buying a better product. If you quit eating eggs because the chickens are kept in the cages, you are just not buying eggs and the industry doesn't see it. When you choose to buy the cage-free organic eggs (sometimes you have to look for them), you are using your money to show the industry what you want and, as you see, this option is becoming more available (there are 3 brands of Free range and cage free brands of eggs at my local Safeway).
There is a group in Tacoma is trying to get a food co-op going. I want to join because there is a local movement towards organic, ethically raised and humanely killed meat. As a member of the co-op, I could work with others to make this a part of the market, creating an alternative to industrially produced meat.
