Chasing

Chasing view large on black.

A bit of drama involved in getting this one (I locked myself out of my car)... thank heaven for roadside assistance, cell phones, and Starbucks!

I just found out my car is eediot proof about leaving the keys in the ingnition and trying to lock the car via the door switch, it doesnt let you do it! Of course, it took me about 6 tries and cussing why my door didnt lock, to figure out the keys were still in the ignition.

Oh I take plenty of photos.. just don't know what all the terms mean or what helps make them better etc... it's all gobbledegook to me!

Well, the first trick is to get out there and shoot... developing the 'eye' is the hardest part and can't be learned in a book. The tech stuff comes (with studying) over time.

Finding someone who can gently critique or some other form of mentor is also a great help.

Lastly, and some shudder at the work involved, using Flickr and following other photographers and studying their work has been a great help to me. The forums there in the various groups can be great places for questioning and learning. (Though, like any web forum, there's a proportion of various kinds of assholes too...)

Edited to add:

Having a decent camera is a great help, you don't need a really expensive one, a decent point and shoot is all you need. You can do great work with a cheap cam or even a cell phone, but IMO that's a handicap for a beginner.

I do have a DSLR (Canon EOS 400D) but it's not as practical/portable as the iPhone I guess... but the iPhone 3GS photo quality is ordinary at best..

I think the key is getting 'the right eye', as you said... thats the bit I lack (c:

(sorry for the late reply.)

If you can get your hands on a 4s now that the prices are dropping with the release of the 5, it's got an excellent camera.

You get an eye by getting out and shooting and practicing...
