Kitsap County Fair entries 2012
Jul. 28th, 2012 06:45 amThe Kitsap County Fair is fast approaching... And it's time to start thinking about my entries. So, here's some of the candidates and my thoughts.
(I've used smaller thumbs than usual to cut down on loading time.)

Weatherbeaten - Monochrome view large on black.

Weatherbeaten view large on black.
Brenda suggested this one, and it's a toss-up as to which version. I prefer the monochrome, but the color version tells a better story (but will also be a more difficult edit).

Why worry about the rain? view large on black.

In a grey world view large on black.
Another choice between two edits... But I think the color version is the stronger one, but lacks definition in the water. I might be able to apply the HDR techniques I used for the monochrome version to the color one and bring the water up some without muddying the colors (crosses fingers). If I can, this one is definitely goes in.

Fast and slow... view large on black.
The more I look at this one, the more I like it. It'll need a re-crop and re-edit, but it's certainly a very strong picture.

Awakening in fire view large on black.
By views and comments, my most popular photograph ever... But as much as I like this picture, it'll be competing in one of the roughest categories. (Nature.) And I'm not sure I can get it to print well.

Misty menace view large on black.
A strong contender for submission, but I'll need a trial print to see how it looks. I have high hopes for it.

Moving Mountains view large on black.
With a little additional editing to pop the color, this one is also a strong contender...
Six potential entries - out of which I must choose three. And that's just out of last years work, there's probably more back in the older stuff that's worthy of consideration. (If you want to look, you can sift through older stuff either on Flickr or photography related posts here on LJ.) I really need to hop to it, and get some trial edits done and trial prints ordered this week... which of course is a crazy week because of Summer Madness next weekend.
A clarification... One can enter up to three photographs, with a max of two in any category.
