When we adopted Caramel (our boar), his paperwork said he was neutered. When we took him for his first exam (just a few days later) the vet said he was neutered. For the past month he's been sharing a cage with Missy (our sow).

Last night, at his annual checkup, the vet said he is *not* actually neutered. (Turns out his testes are small and unusually placed.)

Luckily, the cage we used for Missy's quarantine was still set up so we could immediately separate them when we got home.

As Missy is three years old, and has not littered previously that we know of, we're both worried sick that she may be pregnant. Pregnancy is very dangerous for her because if sows have not littered by the time they're a year old, their pelvises fuse and pups can no longer be delivered normally. Delivery by C-section is an option, but there's a high chance of losing both sow and pups.

OH NO!
All of you are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope everything works out OK.

There is a good possibility, if his testes are small and unusually placed as you say, that he is sterile or at least not very fertile. Here's hoping that's true and that Missy is not preggers! Guinea pigs are so cute - it's a shame that they can have so much trouble breeding.
