At the Port Washington Narrows
Jun. 20th, 2011 12:10 pmLast week, some folks were complaining about the total eclipse being "on the far side of the world"... well, it's an ill wind that blows no one any good. Eclipses on the far side of the world means exceptionally low tides on *this* side.

The best gear in your kit doesn't always come from a camera store. My spiffy new boots let me roam mud and tide pools with abandon.

The unusually low tides didn't just expose the tide flats, they also gave easy access to the deep channel that's normally far from shore. Here a fisherman takes advantage of that opportunity.
(Tech note: Yes, it's soft. My bad for not stopping down a few stops to slightly increase the DOF.)

Shell collectors and marine life enthusiasts out in force on the exposed tide flats at the Port Washington Narrows. As a photographer, we try and see things others don't... It was humbling to have this gentleman point out all the life that I missed on this small rock.
