Bought tickets to see Our Town (my favorite play) at CSTOCK on the 14th. When talking about this with Brenda, it turned out she had never seen or read it, so I turned to the 'net as the grand repository of all things to find examples to show her. I expected to find nothing but blurry and shaky clips of high school productions, but instead found two real gems.
The first is a clip of Paul Newman performing the Stage Manager's soliloquy from the opening of Act 3 - an incredible performance.
(It's widescreen, so you may have to watch it on YouTube to get the full effect.)
The second clip is from my all time favorite version of the play, with Hal Holbrook playing the Stage Manager with a deep Yankee/New England accent. Here is the opening of the play and the soliloquy where the Stage Manager gives a bit of background and tells us about the layout and geography of Grover's Corners.
