Machinery and people at the Port Townsend Boatyard:

Machinery

An old engine sits and waits for either resurrection or rust...

A man and his steed.

It was actually quite astonishing to watch the driver of the boat lift maneuver it around the yard... There wasn't a lot of room to start with, and between cars, workers, and photographers there was a lot of traffic.

I like both of these images, Derek. The overall blue tones of the bottom one works very well and the somewhat symmetrical patterns of the first are intriguing. Did you desaturate it?

Thanks Jack!

No, I didn't desaturate the first one. The shot was taken with the onboard flash as it was in a deep shadow. IIRC, in ACR, I set the WB to 'shade', then tweaked the exposure and contrast, then raised clarity and vibrance before importing to Elements. In Elements, I cropped it, then tweaked the contrast and midtones. Then I creates a B&W version, tweaked it, and dragged it down to 20% opacity.

I'm trying to get out of the habit of tweaking on the colors too much...

I also burned out some glare in the upper right corner, which stands out more and more as I keep looking at it... I need much more practice at that!
